The Union County Equalization Office is looking for a full-time Appraiser. Duties include appraising work in establishing property values, maintain files, answer inquiries from the public, perform clerical activities associated with record keeping, among other duties assigned by the Director of Equalization. Applicant must have high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and must be able to obtain an Assessor’s Certificate from the South Dakota Department of Revenue within one year of employment. Applicant must be able to deal with the public in a friendly manner and must maintain certification through continual education. Previous construction experience and a knowledge of appraisal methods is preferred but not required. This is a full-time salaried position with benefits and based on a 37.5 hour work week.

Applications may be obtained from the Director of Equalization office located in the basement of the courthouse at 209 E Main St, Ste 130 in Elk Point from 8:30 – 5:00 M-F.

County-wide Reappraisal

 

A reappraisal program for property tax equalization purposes is now under way throughout the county. Appraisers from the Assessor’s Office will be visiting properties to gather information relative to this reappraisal. Letters and questionnaires will be mailed out in advance to the areas that will be reappraised. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
